Operation Tile Pt. 1

With only a few days to spare before our Christmas holidays we've managed to tackle our kitchen backsplash tile project. This makes me one happy girl knowing that I don't have to see the grimy strip of wall where the old laminate backsplash was.

Here's what it looked like at the beginning of our tiling...

and here's what it looked like at the end of day 1...

And here is how we got here...

Having the sheets of tile was perfect for tiling amateurs like us, we were able to cut our sheets down easily to the ideal size and shape.

We covered the wall space with tile adhesive and just laid the cut sheets on top. We found it easiest to double team this project by having one person slightly ahead of the other laying the adhesive so that the other person could come behind and place the tile. It seemed to be the best system because the whole process only took us about an hour and a half!

Just for a little idea of what it looked like after the adhesive step, much better than the strip of revealed drywall...

We're grouting tonight and hope to have a finished product by tomorrow morning! The tile already looks so much better that I can't imagine what it is going to look like all sealed up and finished. And even though we both hate tiling it has been completely worth while. It's a great project if you want to see results right away, plus instant gratification feels so good!
